Bat Removal & Bat Control in Michigan

Bats normally aren’t much concern to people, but when they’re living in your attic or walls, it’s a different story. Precision Wildlife Removal gets bats out of Michigan homes and businesses humanely, seals the gaps they were using, and cleans up what they left behind. We answer calls 24 hours a day at (888) 346-8228, and every job starts with a free inspection.

Signs you have bats in the attic or walls

Bats are quiet and only come out at night, so many homeowners don’t realize they have a colony until it’s grown. Watch for:

  • Bats leaving the roofline at dusk, often from the ridge vent, gable vents, soffit gaps or where the chimney meets the roof.
  • Droppings (guano) on the attic floor, on window sills or piled below an entry point. Bat guano looks like mouse droppings but crumbles into a powder.
  • Dark staining or smudge marks around small gaps, from the oils on bats’ fur.
  • Squeaking or scratching in the walls or ceiling around dawn and dusk.
  • A bat in the living space. One bat inside usually means more in the attic or walls.

How our bat exclusion works

Bats can squeeze through very small gaps, so a real fix means finding every opening, not just the obvious one.

Step 1: Full inspection

A technician checks the whole building envelope: ridge vents, gable vents, soffits, fascia, chimney flashing, siding gaps and attic interior. We note where bats are active and every other place they could get in.

Step 2: One-way exclusion devices

We install one-way devices at the active entry points. Bats leave at night to feed and can’t get back in. This is the humane, effective method the Michigan DNR recommends for bats in buildings.

Step 3: Seal the rest of the house

While the devices do their work, we seal the other gaps with durable materials. On one bat job, a customer noted we “added metal critter guards to all ridge vents.” Ridge-vent guards are one of the most common fixes we install on Michigan homes.

Step 4: Remove devices and close up

Once the bats are gone, we remove the one-way devices and permanently seal those last openings.

Step 5: Guano cleanup (if needed)

Bat colonies can leave a lot of guano behind. See bat guano cleanup and attic restoration.

Why timing matters: Michigan’s bat maternity season

Bats in Michigan raise their young in summer. The Michigan DNR advises against excluding bats during the maternity season (generally May through mid-August), because pups that can’t fly yet would be trapped inside. Trapped pups die in the attic or wander into your living space looking for a way out.

If you call during maternity season, we’ll still inspect, confirm it’s bats, seal the gaps bats aren’t using, and schedule the exclusion for when the young can fly. If a bat has had contact with a person or pet, that’s a different situation. See below.

A bat in the house? What to do right now

  • If no one has had contact with the bat: close interior doors to confine it to one room, turn off the lights, and open a window to the outside. Often it will leave on its own. Then call us to find out how it got in.
  • If you wake up with a bat in the room, or a child, pet or anyone who can’t say for sure has been near it: don’t release it. Bats can carry rabies, and the bat may need to be tested. Call your local health department or doctor, and call us at (888) 346-8228. We respond 24/7.

Bat removal FAQs

Will you kill the bats?

No. Exclusion lets bats leave on their own and keeps them out. It’s humane, and it works better than any other method.

How long does bat exclusion take?

It depends on the size of the building and the number of entry points. The bats need a few nights to leave through the one-way devices before we close up. Your technician will give you a timeline after the inspection.

Do you offer a warranty on bat work?

Yes. Our work comes with a 5-year warranty. Your technician will go over the details with your estimate.

Can I just seal the holes myself?

Sealing holes with bats inside traps them in your attic or pushes them into your living space, and during maternity season it can leave pups to die inside.

How much does bat removal cost?

Every building is different, so we inspect first and give you a free estimate.
