Wildlife Exclusion & Prevention (Animal Proofing)
Removing an animal solves today’s problem. Sealing the house solves next year’s. Wildlife exclusion means finding and closing every opening an animal could use to get into your attic, walls, chimney or crawl space, using materials they can’t chew or tear through. It’s the most important part of every job we do at Precision Wildlife Removal, it’s backed by a 5-year warranty, and it’s also something we offer on its own, before you have a problem. Why animal-proofing matters
Animals don’t pick houses at random. They follow scent, warmth and easy access. If one raccoon, squirrel or bat colony found a way in, others will find it too, often the very next season. Exclusion breaks that cycle. It also protects your investment if you’ve just paid for attic restoration or new insulation.
Where animals get into Michigan homes
Our inspections focus on the spots we see animals use most:
- Ridge vents. The gap under many ridge vents is wide enough for bats and is a common chewing spot for squirrels. Metal ridge-vent guards are one of our most common fixes. One bat customer wrote that we “added metal critter guards to all ridge vents.”
- Roof vents and power vents, which raccoons and squirrels tear or chew open.
- Gable vents, often with weak or missing screening.
- Soffits, fascia and soffit returns, especially where two rooflines meet.
- Chimneys, both an uncapped flue and gaps in the flashing.
- Plumbing stacks and exhaust vents for dryers, baths and kitchens.
- Siding gaps, J-channel and trim corners.
- Foundation gaps, crawl space vents, and the space under decks, porches and sheds.
How our exclusion service works
1. Top-to-bottom inspection
A technician checks the roof, roofline, walls and foundation and records every current or potential entry point. Inspections are free. One customer called us about noises in the attic, and our technician found no animals and no entry points, but did point out missing shingles. If you don’t have a problem, we’ll tell you.
2. Make sure no animal is sealed inside
Sealing a house with an animal still inside causes damage, odor and sometimes an animal in your living space. If there’s activity, we remove the animals first: bats, mice and rats, raccoons, squirrels or birds.
3. Seal with durable materials
We close openings with materials animals can’t chew through or pull off, chosen to look clean on your home.
4. Foundation and ground-level barriers
For decks, porches, sheds and crawl spaces, we install barriers that stop skunks and other diggers from tunneling underneath. See skunk removal.
Preventative maintenance for your home
Our old site called this service “Preventative Maintenance,” and the idea is the same: fix the weak spots before an animal finds them. It’s a good fit if you:
- Just bought an older home, or a home that had animal problems before.
- Live near woods, water or open fields.
- Had a neighbor deal with bats, raccoons or squirrels.
- Just finished a roof, siding or insulation project and want to protect it.
Exclusion near you

Wildlife exclusion FAQs
Is exclusion guaranteed?
Yes. Our work comes with a 5-year warranty. Your technician will go over the details with your estimate.
Will the repairs be visible?
We try to make repairs blend in with your roofline and trim. Some items, like vent guards and chimney caps, will be visible but look neat.
Do you need to get on my roof?
Usually, yes. Most entry points are at the roofline. Our technicians are equipped to work safely at height.
How much does exclusion cost?
It depends on the size of the house and the number of openings. The inspection and estimate are free.
