Skunk Removal & Control
A skunk under the deck is more than a smell problem. Skunks dig under porches, sheds, decks, stoops and concrete slabs to den, raise their young there, and spray pets that get too close. Precision Wildlife Removal removes skunks humanely and then blocks the spots they were using, so another skunk doesn’t move in next season. Call (888) 346-8228, 24 hours a day.

Signs a skunk is living on your property
- A strong musky odor near a deck, porch, shed or crawl space, especially at night or after rain.
- A burrow or hole along a foundation, under a stoop, or beneath a deck or shed. It’s often about four inches wide, with loose dirt around it.
- Small cone-shaped holes in the lawn where skunks have been digging for grubs.
- Your dog getting sprayed, sometimes more than once.
- Small skunks following an adult in late spring or early summer.
How we handle skunk removal
Inspection
We confirm it’s a skunk (groundhogs, opossums and raccoons use the same spaces), find the active den opening, and check for young. Inspection and estimate are free.
Removal
Depending on the situation, we use live trapping or a one-way exclusion door at the den entrance. Our technicians know how to handle skunks to avoid getting anyone, including your pets, sprayed. In spring, we account for babies so none are sealed under your deck.
Exclusion barrier
Skunks den in the same places year after year, so removal alone isn’t enough. We install a barrier along the base of decks, porches and sheds. It’s usually mesh buried below grade and bent outward, so skunks can’t dig under it. See wildlife exclusion and prevention.
Skunks in crawl spaces and under homes
When a skunk gets under the house itself, the odor can come up through the floors. After removal, we can clean, deodorize and seal the area. See crawl space restoration and cleanup.
Why not handle skunks yourself?
Skunks spray when they feel threatened, and the smell can soak into siding, decks, clothes and pets for weeks. They’re also one of the main carriers of rabies in Michigan. If you set a trap yourself, you’re left with a cornered, frightened skunk and no good plan for what comes next. We do this every week, safely.

Skunk removal FAQs
What time of year are skunk problems worst?
Late winter (mating season) and spring (when mothers look for den sites to have their young) are busy times. Skunks will den under structures any time of year, though.
My dog got sprayed. What should I do?
Keep the dog outside if you can, and check its eyes. If they’re red or irritated, call your vet. For the smell, a mix of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap works better than tomato juice. Then call us so it doesn’t happen again.
Will mothballs or ammonia drive a skunk out?
Usually not for long, and they don’t keep the next skunk out. The fix that lasts is removing the skunk and blocking the space.
Is a skunk out during the day rabid?
Not necessarily. Mothers sometimes forage by day. But a skunk acting strangely (wobbling, aggressive or unafraid) should be kept away from people and pets. Call us or your local animal control.
How much does skunk removal cost?
It depends on the method and how much barrier work is needed. We inspect and give you a free estimate.
